The HU @ 170 Russell, Melbourne 3-Aug-2022
Mongolian metal band The HU performed the second of their sold-out shows at 170 Russell in Melbourne on Wednesday 3 August 2022, to commence their Black Thunder tour of Australia. Formed in 2016, The HU uses traditional Mongolian instrumentation with Mongolian throat singing, as they win over fans with their style of music dubbed hunnu rock, inspired by the ancient Mongol/Turkic empire Hünnü. The band comprises Galbadrakh "Gala" Tsendbaatar (morin khuur, throat singing), Nyamjantsan "Jaya" Galsanjamts (tumur hhuur, tsuur, throat singing), Enkhsaikhan "Enkush" Batjargal (morin khuur, throat singing), and Temuulen "Temka" Naranbaatar (tovshuur, backing vocals), along with touring members Unumunkh "Ono" Maralkhuu on percussion, Jambaldorj "Jamba" Ayush on guitars, Nyamdavaa "Davaa" Byambaa on bass, and Odbayar "Odko" Gantumur on drums. Following release of the their debut album The Gereg in 2019, their next studio album titled Rumble of Thunder is set for release on September 2. The Hu is the first Mongolian musical act to top a Billboard chart.
