Ruts D.C. @ Forum Theatre, Melbourne 6-Feb-2018

England's reggae-influenced punk rockers Ruts D.C. (The Ruts) played the Forum Theatre in Melbourne on Tuesday 6 February 2018, to kick-off the Australian leg of their tour supporting fellow UK punks The Stranglers. The Ruts formed in 1977 as the punk revolution swept across England, and are noted for their 1979 UK Top 10 hit Babylon's Burning, and highly-regarded first single In a Rut. After burning out in 1980, the band reignited as Ruts D.C. (D.C. standing for the Italian term da capo, meaning "back to the beginning") and released more albums until they split in 1983. The band reformed mid-2007 and played for the first time in 27 years – a benefit gig for guitarist Paul Fox (following his lung cancer diagnosis), which had longtime fan Henry Rollins (Black Flag, Rollins Band) belting out lead vocals. Ruts D.C. continues touring with original members John "Segs" Jennings on bass and vocals and David Ruffy on drums, along with Leigh Heggarty on guitar, and were very well-received by the Melbourne crowd during their first-ever Australian concert.
