Metal Gods @ Corner Hotel, Melbourne 16-Oct-2022
An ode to Judas Priest and DIO, featuring former members of these bands, was performed under the name Metal Gods at the Corner Hotel in Melbourne on Sunday 16 October 2022. The band was fronted by American singer Tim "Ripper" Owens, who was the vocalist for Judas Priest from 1996-2003, and also sang for Iced Earth and Yngwie Malmsteen. The movie Rockstar (featuring Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston) was loosely based on the Grammy-nominated singer's time in Judas Priest. Drummer Simon Wright was a member of AC/DC from 1983-1989 before he left the group and joined Ronnie James Dio’s band. The Metal Gods band touring Australia also featured James Morley, former bassist with The Angels, guitarist Joel McDonald, known for his work with Rose Tattoo, and most recently, the World Famous Frankie's House Band, along with guitarist Eddy Santacreu. The band performed two sets of hits from both Judas Priest and Dio’s catalogue with Black Sabbath and Rainbow.
