Icehouse @ Zoo Twilights, Melbourne 25-Jan-2020
Great southern band Icehouse performed the first of two sold-out concerts at Melbourne Zoo on Saturday 25 January 2020 in front of 3,000 fans during the Australia Day long weekend. Beginning as Flowers in 1977, the Sydney pub-rock band took on the name of their successful album Icehouse (that became the highest selling debut album in Australia) in 1981 and achieved more mainstream success with a synthpop new-wave style. Led by their creative heart and driving force, founding singer-songwriter Iva Davies, Icehouse is also currently Paul Wheeler on drums, Paul Gildea on guitar, Steve Bull on bass, Glenn Reither on keyboards & sax, and Michael Paynter on keyboards & guitar. As one of the most successful Australian bands of the '80s and '90s, Icehouse was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in 2006. They have had eight Top Ten albums and twenty Top Forty singles in Australia, multiple top-ten hits in Europe and North America and album sales of over 28 times Platinum in Australasia alone. This evening's audience loved hearing this iconic Australian band's hits like Hey Little Girl, Crazy, Electric Blue, and their most popular song Great Southern Land. All proceeds from the event help Zoos Victoria save the critically endangered Mountain Pygmy-possum from extinction.
