High Tension @ Max Watt's, Melbourne 6-Feb-2021
Extreme metal band High Tension performed at Max Watt's in Melbourne city on Saturday 6 February 2021, as part of the Melbourne Music Week program of events. They played tracks from their third and most recent album Purge that was released last June and focusses on the 1965-1966 anti-communist purge in Indonesia - home country of vocalist Karina Utomo. High Tension also comprises bassist Matt Weston, guitarist Mike Deslandes, and Lauren Hammel - who won Live Drummer of the Year in the 2019 National Live Music Awards. After forming during 2012, High Tension's debut album Death Beat came the following year and received a Best Hard Rock / Heavy Metal Album nomination at the 2014 ARIA Awards. Melbourne's heavy music fans enjoyed the band's blistering power and took the opportunity to come together and expel pent up emotions fuelled by pandemic restrictions.
