Ecca Vandal @ Indian Summer Festival, Yarra Park, Melbourne 27-Dec-2018
Ecca Vandal headlined the Indian Summer Festival on Thursday 27 December 2018, held outside the MCG in Yarra Park. The festival celebrated modern Indian food, music, art, film and cricket, while India played test match cricket against Australia inside the stadium. Of Sri Lankan descent, Ecca was born in apartheid South Africa before coming to Melbourne at age 4, when her parents found refuge in Australia. Ecca Vandal performs a diverse range of styles and influences that makes her music impossible to confine to a single genre - at times you’ll hear hardcore punk, hip hop, jazz, then soul - and it’s all delivered with pop sensibilities, a strong attitude and engaging stage presence. Her debut single was released three years ago, and today’s show was a great way to cap off a great year, with highlights including tours of Europe with Incubus and Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes. 'Ecca's outfit is by Melbourne fashion designer Benjamin Garg.
