Twist & Shout Benefit Concert @ Apollo Theatre, Harlem, NYC 6-Feb-2014
As part of NYC's 50th Anniversary celebration of The Beatles, the benefit concert "Twist & Shout: New York celebrates The Beatles" was held at the world famous Apollo Theatre in Harlem on Thursday 6 February 2014. The star-studded charity event featured veteran music legends performing a unique combination of their own songs and Beatles covers. Headlined by Mary Wilson – a founding member of the world's most famous female trio The Supremes, who recorded twelve #1 hits from 1964 to 1969 – the gala concert also featured Scottish dynamo Lulu (known for her '60s hits To Sir With Love and Shout), Rock & Roll Hall of Fame artist Lloyd Price (whose pioneer rock songs have been covered by the likes of Elvis Presley, John Lennon and Elvis Costello), as well as Gary U.S. Bonds (whom The Beatles supported on an early European tour, before being fired from it.) The artists were thrilled to play one of the most famous live music venues in the world, and 100% of net proceeds from ticket sales benefited the Food Bank for New York City.
